A post from a comment
Not sure if y'all are reading the comments, so I'm posting them too. This one from Kathy Kimber. Her brother found our site, and told her about it. Maybe by the time our next reunion comes round, everybody will know about it!
Hello Everyone!
Sure was sorry to miss the reunion...I had just started a new job and we were so short handed I could not get away.
After a bunch of years in the white collar world, I took a Sunday job at a pet store and got bitten by a blind old poodle whilst trying on a sweater. Since the owner ran away w/ the dog I had to get the rabies shots.
When I returned to my office at Merrill Lynch, I realized that the hour I spent getting 5 shots at once was alot less stressful than any hour at Merrill and sort of had one of those Oprah "ah ha" moments.
Quit my job at Merrill w/ no plan at all and within a month had decided to become a vet. 1993.
Two years full time college to be a vet tech (i.e. dog nurse) followed by 5 years of night school to complete the prerequisites for vet school while working for 8 bucks an hour in a vet clinic.
Five years of vet school which included circles of Hell Dante neglected to mention...and...
Voila! A DVM in May 2005!
Gotta admit, 12 hour days are a piece of cake when your work and your play are one in the same.
If you wanna see my "pic" as they say on AOL...go to www.animalmedicalcenterkc.com
I'd love to hear from friends from the past to hear about how life turned out.
Best wishes to all and if you ever come to Kansas City...well it is a fabulous town and we could have fun.
Love,
Dr. K
