What are you waiting for?
I've got 3 checks in hand, plus 2 checks for seed money. Shocking isn't it? Come on guys, this is for you! Need some inspiration? go to burningman.com and read about radical self-reliance, community and why it's so important to be a part of things, not just sit on the sidelines waiting for someone else to do it all.
Really, all you need to do is write a check and show up. That's it. I promise you a magical time. You don't have to dress up, or make excuses. No one cares how gray, fat or bald you've gotten. We've all got wrinkles; most of us have been thru the wars of one sort or another. I know lots of you have kids graduating from high school and heading to college. It's a time of transitions; life is full of them. Come celebrate and share your life stories. We shared home rooms and study halls once upon a time.
As they say when you get to Burning Man: Welcome Home. You'll know what I mean when you get here.
So get those checks in the mail today. I mean now. Right now. This minute.
Here's another reason why you should come. A freind of mine died 3 weeks ago. Massive heart attack 3 days after his 50th birthday. He'd been working 18 hour days for 6 months. Missing his kid's birthday parties because his company couldn't get by without him. He was a great dad. A really dedicated guy in a wide range of community activities. A great neighbor - I'll tell you stories about him when I see you on the 30th. But, I keep thinking about all the things he didn't get around to doing. The garden that he had been dreaming about for at least three years. The weddings he won't be at - in body anyway. Even things we didn't get around to doing with him: the dinners we always planned and never got around to. The celebrations we kept putting off because we were all too busy.
This reunion is a celebration. A beautiful chance and reason to just cut out from our overly busy, scheduled and cerebral lives and just have a little fun with old freinds who really haven't forgotten us even if we haven't spoken in 30 years. We're in each other's blood and bones. We grew up together. We're forever embedded in one another's psychological hard drives.
And that's a good thing, no matter how hard and fast we ran away from it all. Coming back to it will be a breath of fresh air. It will be magic. I promise you.
